The database
Every stock list on this site is generated from a single research database. It tracks 460+ publicly traded companies, including their exchange listings, market capitalizations and roles in the energy transition.
What it takes to be on a list
Publicly traded
Each company must have an active listing on a recognized exchange or, where noted, an OTC market. Private companies may appear in news coverage but are excluded from stock lists.
Meaningful exposure
Each company is classified by its place in the value chain. Inclusion requires the theme to represent a material part of the business. Composite lists combine the companies from their constituent lists.
Editorial judgment
Inclusion is ultimately an editorial decision. For borderline cases, the expandable company panel explains the nature and extent of the exposure.
Company size
Lists include every company meeting the stated criteria, from mega-caps to micro-caps. Market capitalization is displayed for comparison and does not determine inclusion.
Companies are removed when they delist, are acquired or no longer meet the thematic criteria. Each removal is recorded in the changelog.
Where the numbers come from
Sourced from public market data and updated regularly. For non-USD listings, values are converted to US dollars and the exchange rates used are displayed on the list page.
Assets under management, expense ratios and holdings come from fund sponsors’ published materials and public market data, with per-fund “as of” dates shown on each ETF page.
Projects, value-chain positions and key assets come from company filings, investor presentations and announcements.
Quality controls
Month-over-month market-cap moves are flagged for review.
Moves block automatic publishing until a human verifies the cause.
List changes are recorded with a date and reason, including company additions and removals, data corrections and description updates. Recent changes are published on the stock lists hub.
Every list page displays the date of its latest data update. The date advances only when the underlying data has been refreshed.
Limitations
The system has the following limitations:
- Market caps are point-in-time approximations. They are updated regularly and do not represent live prices. Currency conversion introduces some additional imprecision, so the figures indicate company scale.
- Company exposure can change between published filings and subsequent updates. Divestments, strategic shifts and acquisitions may therefore make a classification temporarily stale.
- Theme classification involves judgment. Reasonable people can disagree about whether a diversified miner is a “copper stock.” Expandable company panels explain the basis for borderline classifications, which remain editorial judgments.
- Inclusion describes exposure to a theme and does not constitute an investment recommendation. Some included companies are early-stage and may never reach production or profitability.
Spot something we should check?
If you spot an error—a wrong ticker, a delisted company or a misclassified business—email us. Verified corrections are applied to the database and appear on the live page after the next publish. Material corrections are recorded in the changelog.
